When King Richard I of England passes away, his brother John seizes the throne from their young nephew, Arthur, who many believe has a stronger claim. King Philip of France, supporting Arthur's right, sends his clever ambassador, Chatillion, to urge John to step down and restore the throne to its rightful heir.
