The image shows the steel-framed skeleton of the new Shelter Island Library addition rising under a clear blue sky. The structure features a high-peaked gabled roof and a distinct arched entrance, currently consisting only of silver metal studs without walls or roofing. To the right, a green boom lift stands near a large mound of excavated dirt, while the foreground contains a black-wrapped pallet and a temporary beige building that borders a narrow grassy path leading to the construction site.
In this updated view of the Shelter Island Library project, construction has progressed significantly, showing the new addition being integrated with the existing brick building. Two workers in hard hats are visible on a high platform of the addition, which is now partially covered with yellow exterior sheathing and black roofing underlayment. A prominent feature is the new cupola rising from the roofline, while a massive, leafy evergreen tree towers over the site against a vivid blue sky. On the left, the traditional red brick facade of the original library provides a clear contrast to the modern construction techniques and yellow "DensGlass" panels being installed on the new wing.
This interior shot looks straight up into the soaring ceiling of the library addition, showcasing a complex web of silver steel trusses and beams. Large industrial-grade girders provide the main support, while a dense network of lighter metal cross-beams forms the vaulted roof. Plywood panels and corrugated metal decking are visible in sections where the roof is being closed in, and a large arched opening at the bottom of the frame looks out onto bright green trees. The image captures the intricate "puzzle" of modern engineering that will eventually be hidden behind the finished ceiling.
