Shelter Island Book Club - Plainsong by Kent Haruf Tuesday, August 12th, 4:30 pm (at the SI History Museum)
A heartfelt story of family and romance set on the High Plains east of Denver. In Holt, Colorado, a high school teacher raises two boys alone. A pregnant teenage girl, her father gone and her mother unwilling to house her, is alone and has nowhere to go. Nearby, two brothers work their family homestead, the only life they've ever known. These lives reveal a vision of resilience and connection, as they face circumstances with confusion, curiosity, dignity, and humor.
This program will take place in person at the Shelter Island History Museum.
