Shelter Island Book Club - Playground by Richard Powers
Tuesday, May 13th, 4:30 pm @ Shelter Island History Museum

In Richard Powers' latest novel, four characters' lives intertwine: twelve-year-old Evie Beaulieu, submerged in a Montreal pool with an aqualung; Ina Aroita, raised on naval bases with art as her anchor; and high schoolers Rafi Young and Todd Keane, who connect through a board game and literature. Their paths converge on Makatea, a history-rich island in French Polynesia, where residents must decide whether to approve a project for floating autonomous cities or reject the seasteaders.

This program will take place in person at the Shelter Island History Museum.
