Thank you to all who responded to the community survey in the last issue of LIBRARY NOTES. We received 82 responses, 75 of which were from year-round Shelter Islanders, plus 7 from weekenders and/or seasonal residents. Nearly 25 percent of those responding had children or teens at home. This survey was the first of many efforts that will be initiated over the next few months to solicit input from all members and groups in the community. The majority of those who filled out the questionnaire (75 out of 82) want to see improved library facilities and services. The following is the rank order of what was viewed as being of very strong or strong interest:
more community-oriented programs, separate children’s area, increased after-school activities, quiet reading area, expanded periodical/reference collections, and, finally, a Cafe. More Results
